Experienced Design Engineer

Are you a time served Mechanical Engineer with ONC/HNC/degree level in Mechanical engineering? We’re recruiting a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in Scarborough. 

 You will be responsible for new designs and current design improvements across the range of Firmac machines. We are looking for someone with innovative ideas who can add value to our existing team while looking at design solutions from a different angle. Experience in a design field is very important to hit the ground running.

  A background of running design project from idea to realisation would be a distinct advantage. The successful candidate will also help support the commercial team with new concepts at the tender stage.

Experienced Mechanical Fitting Engineers

Are you a time served Fitter or Tool Room Fitter with a ONC/HNC in mechanical engineering? We’re recruiting a Mechanical Engineering Fitters to join our team in Scarborough. You’ll be responsible for the assembly of machinery and press tooling from engineering drawings to high specifications. When experienced there will be opportunities to install and train our customers on our equipment in the UK and across the world.

  

APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMME

Each year we recruit two engineering apprentices to join our experienced team. You will follow a structured programme, in conjunction with Yorkshire Coast Hull or York Colleges, ensuring that you not only receive the right skills whilst earning a wage, but also gain a nationally recognised qualification, either an HNC or NVQ 3. During the programme, which lasts for between four and five years, you will spend four days a week at Firmac learning alongside our team and one day at college.

 

Competition for the places is strong so will need to show commitment and interest in the business. To apply for an apprenticeship you must be at least 16 years old.

 

Types of apprenticeships available: Mechanical engineering Electrical engineering Control systems, software integration and programming 3D CAD design.

 

MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER

The Job

  • Provide design support for our existing range of equipment
  • Design and detail new equipment using your own knowledge and experience Support new designs with assembly information
  • Provide detailed bought out part lists to the procurement department
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy and design with efficient machining in mind Liaise with manufacturing on a regular basis
  • Maintain drawing records, and ensure accurate information is available for machine manuals.
  • Get actively involved with new machine testing

The ideal qualifications/experience

  • Time served Mechanical Engineer ONC/HNC/degree level in Mechanical engineering
  • Hydraulic/Pneumatic systems knowledge
  • Press tool knowledge an advantage
  • 3D modelling (Our system is Solidworks)
  • 10 years’ experience in a machinery design field, ideally with some hands on workshop experience

The Person

  • A conscientious and flexible attitude to work
  • Able to work under own initiative, and solve problems without support
  • Successful communicator with overlapping disciplines e.g. electrical, fitting and manufacturing departments
  • Prepared to travel worldwide, (when required)
  • Full European driving license 

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING FITTER

The Job

  • Assemble machinery and press tooling from engineering drawings to high specifications
  • In-house testing of equipment prior to dispatch
  • Installation and training on equipment worldwide (when experienced)
  • Service equipment in the UK and worldwide (when experienced)
  • Provide telephone support to customers when required
  • Apply own ideas to overcome problems and keep projects moving forward
  • Provide feedback to the design office during the assembly process Use toolroom turning, grinding and milling equipment when needed to assist with the assembly process

The ideal qualifications

  • Time served Fitter/Toolroom Fitter
  • ONC/HNC Mechanical Engineering
  • Forklift License
  • Hydraulic/Pneumatic systems knowledge
  • General welding ability

The Person

  • A conscientious and flexible attitude to work
  • Able to work under own initiative, and solve problems without support
  • Successful communicator with overlapping disciplines e.g. drawing, electrical, and manufacturing department
  • Prepared to travel worldwide, (when experienced)
  • Full European driving license 

TOOLROOM MACHINE OPERATORS

The Job

  • Operate NC or CNC manufacturing machinery in a manufacturing workshop
  • Provide manufacturing support to machine fitters
  • Provide feedback to design staff for manufacturing improvements
  • Produce high quality machined parts to drawing tolerances and finishes
  • Quality control responsibility for own manufactured parts

The ideal qualifications

  • Time served in a toolroom environment
  • ONC Mechanical engineering (or equivalent)
  • Forklift License an advantage

The Person

  • A conscientious and flexible attitude to work
  • Capable of producing a high output of finished parts
  • Able to work under own initiative to solve manufacturing problems
  • Successful communicator with overlapping disciplines e.g. drawing office, and fitting departments

ROLL TOOLING ENGINEER

The Job

  • Skilled in rollforming technology
  • Expertise in design of rollform tooling from galvanised sheet metal 0.5mm to 2.0mm thickness
  • Skilled in the fine tuning and setting of rollforming machines to produce the perfect profiles, after fitting the tooling

  • Relevant mechanical engineering qualifications
  • This is open to UK and non UK candidates, however spoken English is a requirement
